JM Language Services LLC

About me

Hello, my name is Justin Mattos, and I founded JM Language Services LLC in 2015 after realizing that there was a real need for quality translation services while working as an in-house translator at a local law firm.  I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, French, and History from the University of Mary Washington.  I have also completed extensive accounting coursework at Mary Baldwin College.  In addition to my five years of experience working as a document reviewer and translator at a local law firm, I also have extensive retail experience that includes working as a store manager for prolonged time periods.
Working as a freelance translator through my company is a very rewarding and enriching experience.  Over the years, I have seen my translations help people get into schools at all levels, escape violence, get married, do research, get medical treatment, start new lives, reach new audiences, and resolve all kinds of legal disputes.  I can’t wait to see what my translations will do for you!  Get in touch so we can find out.

My Language Services

Certified and Specialized

Business and Financial Translations

I provide translations of almost any business document, including contracts, articles of incorporation, secretary of state/trade registry profiles, HR documentation, marketing materials, business plans, internal emails, letters to shareholders, shareholder meeting minutes, and business negotiation documentation. The same goes for financial documents. I provide translations of financial statements, auditor reports, tax returns, annual reports, and accounting entries, among others.

Editing/Proofreading

I provide monolingual English proofreading and editing services, as well as proofreading and editing services for human-drafted Spanish to English and French to English translations.  Machine and AI translation post-editing services are provided on a case by case basis.

Certified Translations

I provide certified, mirror image translations of almost any document that you might need for a U.S.-based educational, legal, or government institution including birth, marriage, divorce, and death certificates; bank statements; utility bills; sworn statements; vehicle registrations; diplomas; certificates; transcripts; report cards; paystubs; employment letters; performance reviews; and labor contracts.  Depending on the document, I also provide rush translations on less than 24 hours notice.

Legal Translations

While I provide translations of a wide variety of legal documents, I mostly specialize in documents for business, contract, family, immigration, and criminal law legal cases.  I am available to translate almost any document you might need for an upcoming legal case, including judgements, pleadings, motions, and settlements filed in you or your client’s native Spanish or French-speaking country.

Medical Translations

I provide translations of nearly any medical document commonly or uncommonly issued by a medical professional.  These documents include lab test reports, progress notes, medical records, discharge summaries, physical exam reports, medical certifications, prescriptions, insurance documentation, government forms, and psych evaluations.

Add-On and Special Services

I provide rush translations for any type of translation that I normally do.  Timeframes depend on the document.  I also provide document summaries and notarized certified translations, where a notarized certificate of accuracy is provided with the translation.  In addition, upon request, I provide mailing and printing services for translations I have completed.  Please note however that if an outside printing company is used, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.

Why Choose Me?

Selecting the right translator can make all the difference in ensuring your documents are accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate. With a unique blend of language expertise and industry knowledge, I offer professional translation services that meet the highest standards.

Specialized Expertise

When I started my company, my legal, business, and finance background led to my translation specializations as I brought specialized knowledge that ensured the accuracy of my translations. Now, over ten years later, my knowledge of the specialized terminology and context in these fields as well as others comes from my ongoing devotion to continuing education both within and outside of the translation industry. Year after year of continuing professional development and working with other translators has created expertise that you can depend on to get your translation right.

Proven Language Proficiency

While in school, I extensively studied the Spanish and French languages, even studying in Paris and Spain to further my education. I graduated from the University of Mary Washington magna cum laude with honors in Spanish and separate major in French. As a professional translator, I am a screened translator in the Spanish to English and French to English language pairs in the Certified Pro Network at Proz.com, a prominent translation industry community/marketplace.

Attention to Detail

Over ten years of editing experience has honed my skills in meticulous proofreading and editing. I regularly proofread and edit other translators’ work. So, I know what a bad translation looks like, and I know the importance of accuracy, especially in high-stakes documents like contracts and medical reports. My commitment to detail ensures that every translation I deliver is polished and precise.

Commitment to Quality

My goal is not just to translate but to deliver high-quality, reliable translations that clients can trust. I consistently strive to exceed expectations, ensuring that each project is completed with the utmost care and professionalism. Your documents will be handled with the highest standards of accuracy and cultural relevance. Technology fails. That’s why it’s important to have a human who will make sure everything is correct without having to search for the perfect prompt or troubleshoot a technology you don’t have time to learn.
